What is Shopify Plus? Features, costs and who it is for

Shopify Plus is Shopify's plan for online stores that need more than Basic, Grow and Advanced offer. In the EU it costs from €2,100 a month, on a one-year or three-year contract. For that you get, among other things, a checkout you can extend at every step, unlimited B2B catalogs, up to nine additional stores under the same plan, higher API limits and priority 24/7 support. This article explains what Shopify Plus is, what it costs, what you get over Advanced and when you do not need it. All prices and features were checked against Shopify's pricing page, Help Center and developer documentation on 27 October 2026.

What is Shopify Plus?

Shopify is an e-commerce platform for building an online store, taking payments and selling through your own site, social media, marketplaces and an in-store point of sale. Shopify hosts everything, so there is no software to install and no servers to manage. What your store can do depends on your plan. Shopify's Dutch pricing page lists four plans for running your own online store: Basic, Grow, Advanced and Plus.

Shopify Plus is the most extensive of the four. It includes everything in Advanced and adds features for businesses that run into the limits of the other plans: in checkout, in B2B, across multiple stores, in integrations with other systems and in team size. Shopify itself describes Plus as the plan for complex businesses. Technically, Plus runs on the same platform: you work with the same admin, themes and apps as on the other plans.

Above Plus, Shopify also offers Shopify Enterprise, for organisations with even greater scale and complexity, which includes a dedicated account manager and custom pricing. The dedicated account manager that older articles often attribute to Plus therefore belongs to Enterprise. Plus comes with priority 24/7 phone and chat support. If you are looking for help choosing or building, our page as a Shopify Plus agency explains how we approach Plus projects.

What does Shopify Plus cost?

In the EU, Shopify Plus costs €2,100 a month on a three-year contract and €2,250 a month on a one-year contract. In US dollars that is $2,300 and $2,500. You are billed monthly and can cancel at the end of the term. Prices exclude VAT. Besides the lower monthly price, a three-year contract also comes with lower variable platform fees.

Those variable platform fees apply to larger, more complex businesses. They may pay a fee based on revenue and business model, with a different rate for B2B than for direct-to-consumer sales. Shopify does not publish the revenue level at which variable pricing starts; you agree it with Shopify directly. So treat €2,100 as a floor, not a fixed price.

What is included makes that amount easier to compare with the other plans:

  • Up to nine expansion stores, for example for other countries or a separate B2B store. Each live expansion store does need its own theme licence.
  • Unlimited staff accounts and up to 200 inventory locations.
  • POS Pro for twenty retail locations, and up to 200 locations if you use Shopify Payments.
  • Lower Shopify Payments fees for a Dutch store: €0.15 per iDEAL payment instead of €0.29, and 1.4% plus €0.25 per online card payment instead of 1.6% plus €0.25 on Advanced.
  • A lower fee with a third-party payment provider: 0.2% per order, against 0.6% on Advanced.

On top of that you pay for building the store, apps, integrations with systems such as an ERP or PIM, and development after launch. A full overview of every cost, with worked examples for the other plans, is in our article on Shopify pricing.

Shopify Plus vs Advanced: what do you get?

The plan below Plus is Advanced: €289 a month billed yearly and €384 billed monthly. For the difference, Plus gives you the following:

  • Checkout. On Advanced you change the logo, colours and fonts in the standard editor, and apps can only be added to the Thank you and Order status pages. On Plus you can also extend the information, shipping and payment steps with checkout extensions, and the Checkout Branding API gives you more control over the design.
  • B2B. Advanced allows up to three active B2B catalogs. Plus allows unlimited catalogs, assigns catalogs directly to companies and company locations, and supports deposits, partial payments and payment requests per fulfillment.
  • Expansion stores. Advanced has none, Plus up to nine.
  • API limits. Through the GraphQL Admin API an app gets 200 points per second on Advanced and 1,000 on Plus.
  • Shopify Functions. On Advanced you use Functions only through apps from the App Store. On Plus you can also have a custom app with Functions built, for discount, delivery or payment logic that fits your store exactly.
  • Team and locations. Advanced has fifteen staff accounts and ten inventory locations, Plus unlimited staff and up to 200 locations.
  • Testing. Plus includes unlimited staging stores, where you try out changes before they go live, and room for 100 themes instead of 20.
  • Peak moments. Only Plus has high-volume checkout and bot protection, both aimed at flash sales and traffic peaks.
  • Support. Advanced has enhanced 24/7 chat, Plus priority 24/7 phone and chat.

What is not on this list matters just as much. Shopify Markets, with local currencies, translations and local domains, is part of every plan. Shopify Flow, the automation tool, is free on Basic, Grow, Advanced and Plus. And B2B also works on Basic, Grow and Advanced. If you read that international selling, automation or B2B is in itself a reason to move to Plus, that information is out of date.

Shopify Plus features in practice

Checkout: extensions and Functions

For many brands, checkout is the main reason to move to Plus. With checkout extensions you add your own components to the information, shipping and payment steps, such as an extra field, a product offer or a delivery message. The logic behind them, such as discounts, delivery options, which payment methods a customer sees and checks before payment, is built with Shopify Functions. That also lets you run a separate checkout for business and consumer customers in the same store.

The old ways of customising checkout are gone. The legacy checkout.liquid is no longer supported, and Shopify Scripts, which Plus stores used for years to build discount and shipping logic, stopped running on 30 June 2026. If your store still relies on customisations from that era, check that your discounts and shipping rules still do what you expect.

B2B on Shopify Plus

B2B is no longer exclusive to Plus. On Basic, Grow and Advanced you already work with company accounts, catalogs, payment terms and self-serve ordering for business customers, with up to three active B2B catalogs. Plus becomes necessary once you need more catalogs, for example because every price tier gets its own catalog, or once you want to assign a catalog directly to a company or location. Deposits, partial payments and payment requests per fulfillment also require Plus. How we set up B2B stores on Shopify is explained on our Shopify B2B page.

Multiple stores and international selling

With Shopify Markets you sell from one store into multiple countries, with their own currencies, languages and domains, on every plan. Plus adds up to nine expansion stores. They are useful when a market or channel differs so much that a separate store is clearer than per-market settings: a different assortment, a dedicated team or a separate channel for business customers.

For Balmain Hair Couture we built that kind of setup after the move from Magento to Shopify Plus: a dedicated storefront per market and per part of the brand under a single Plus licence, all on the same custom theme, with a separate B2B route for salons. Opening a new market there means a new storefront on a foundation that already exists. Read how it works in the Balmain Hair case study.

Integrations and automation

With a large catalogue or high order volumes, the API limit determines how quickly an ERP, PIM or WMS exchanges data with Shopify. On Plus that limit for the GraphQL Admin API is five times higher than on Advanced and ten times higher than on Basic and Grow. Shopify Flow works on every plan, but only on Plus can Flow use tasks from apps that a partner built specifically for your store. If you want that kind of logic in your own app rather than in an app from the App Store, Plus is the prerequisite.

Who is Shopify Plus for?

Shopify does not name a revenue level at which you should move to Plus. The question is which features you need and what they deliver. Plus usually fits when one or more of these apply to your business:

  • Your checkout has to do more than the standard: extra fields, your own validation, custom delivery or payment rules, or a separate checkout for business customers.
  • You sell B2B with more than three catalogs, or with catalogs per company or location.
  • You want to run multiple stores, per country, brand or channel, under one plan.
  • You connect Shopify to an ERP, PIM or WMS that exchanges a lot of data.
  • Your team has more than fifteen people with their own account, or you work with more than ten inventory locations.
  • You run a retail network where many locations need POS Pro.
  • You sell in peaks, with drops or campaigns where many people check out at the same time.

If you are coming from Magento, Salesforce Commerce Cloud or a custom platform, you often already have custom work in checkout, in B2B or in integrations. The question then is which Shopify plan can carry that work. What else a move like that involves is covered in our guide to migrating to Shopify.

When you do not need Shopify Plus

Higher revenue alone is no reason to move. Plus is probably not the right choice yet if this applies to you:

  • You sell to consumers from a single store, and the standard checkout with apps on the Thank you and Order status pages is enough.
  • Your B2B fits within three catalogs.
  • iDEAL is your main payment method and lower payment fees are your main reason. On Plus an iDEAL payment costs €0.15 instead of €0.29. At ten thousand iDEAL payments a month that saves €1,400, less than the €1,811 difference between Advanced billed yearly and Plus.
  • You do not want to commit for at least a year. Plus runs for one or three years, while Advanced can be billed and cancelled monthly.

If in doubt, list the Plus features you would actually use and what they would earn or save. If that does not outweigh the difference in plan cost, Advanced is the better choice for now. You can always move to Plus later.

Frequently asked questions about Shopify Plus

What is the difference between Shopify and Shopify Plus?

Shopify Plus is a Shopify plan, not a different platform. Plus includes everything in Advanced and adds checkout extensions on the information, shipping and payment steps, along with unlimited B2B catalogs, up to nine expansion stores, API limits five times higher than Advanced, unlimited staff accounts and priority 24/7 support.

How much does Shopify Plus cost per month?

In the EU, €2,100 a month on a three-year contract or €2,250 a month on a one-year contract, excluding VAT. Larger, more complex businesses may pay a variable platform fee based on revenue and business model. Shopify does not publish the revenue level at which it starts; you request the exact price from Shopify.

Do you need Shopify Plus for B2B?

No. Shopify B2B works on Basic, Grow, Advanced and Plus. Outside Plus you have up to three active B2B catalogs. You need Plus for unlimited catalogs, catalogs per company or location, deposits, partial payments and payment requests per fulfillment.

Is Shopify Flow only for Shopify Plus?

No. Shopify Flow is a free app on Basic, Grow, Advanced and Plus. Only on Plus can Flow use tasks from apps that a partner built specifically for your store.

What is the difference between Shopify Plus and Shopify Enterprise?

Enterprise is the plan above Plus, for organisations with even greater scale and complexity. According to Shopify it comes with higher platform limits, deeper control over configuration and integrations, a dedicated account manager, service levels committed in the contract and custom pricing.
