Content is the foundation for ranking in search engines. Without content, do not even think about ranking in Google. So it is an understatement to say it is important to write content for readers and search engines alike. Ultimately the reader matters most, because Google looks for the best result for the searcher. It is no coincidence that time on site is important - it is part of Google's algorithm for determining search engine position. How do you best write copy that earns a top spot in Google? We are happy to share our tips.
1. Keyword Research
It is smart to start with exploratory research. Which words have high search volume? Which queries have low competition and therefore offer fast wins? And what are the best searches for your audience? Work the right search terms into your copy and content to rank in Google.
2. Do Not Forget Internal Links
Include links in your content to other blogs and content within your own site. A good internal link structure reinforces important pages. It helps push them up the rankings.
3. Be Unique
It is important not to create or use duplicate content. Do something different and only write unique content. It is smart to check externally purchased content for this. At Webfluencer we usually use Quetext.com - it shows a plagiarism percentage and, if there is any plagiarism, you immediately see where the content came from.
4. Pay Attention to On-Page Elements
In any piece of copy, the title, subheadings, keyword frequency and internal links matter. Get the balance right. Also write a strong meta title and meta description to rank higher.
5. Site Speed
Host the site with a fast web host and create a good experience for the visitor. A fast-loading site keeps visitors around and also lifts conversion. For a webshop especially, it is highly recommended.
6. More Links to Your Website
Continuously build more links to your site. Beat the competition on both quantity and quality. The trick is to land one strong link every month. That is how you grow your domain authority. Especially for the better-known sites and webshops, you will appreciate how high it climbs. You can also outsource link building. Companies that specialize in it may be worth a look.
7. WordPress
The best place to blog is, by far, WordPress. The question is only: why WordPress? Because WordPress has tons of (free) plugins that genuinely help you write SEO-optimized content. As a beginner, that keeps you on the right track and helps you get the best possible rankings out of your content.
8. Continuous Improvement
It is important to maintain results. Are positions suddenly shifting too quickly? Why is something working well? What could be better? Where are the new opportunities to rank? Can you refine? Then act on it right away. That way you do not lose positions, visitors and therefore customers. Want to do this really well?
